Eric Marshall of Evolution Cycling Club, and promoter of the Quicksilver Winter Solstice Series, sent an email out last night with the sad news that the permit snafu that resulted in last week's sudden cancellation couldn't be unravelled in time for this weekend's race. So you'll have to find another way to do your pre-race warmup for UMD.
But according to Eric, the race was actually cancelled for no reason at all:
While we were cleaning up after the cancelation of last week's race, a more senior officer arrived at the scene, reviewed the VDOT permit, and told us that the original officer should not have closed the race down and that it should have been allowed to continue. Vindication for us, but just an hour too late.
So now Eric knows how Floyd Landis will feel if he's ever officially cleared. Or is it that Floyd might one day know how Eric feels?
Anyhoo, I emailed Eric to ask if he knew how the permit hiccup might affect the Quicksilver race in June. Eric wasn't sure, but he said he'd work with the folks at Whole Wheel Velo Club who produce the June race, and share what he learned through this ordeal. Yes, that means that one race promoter will actively collaborate with another race promoter. Not unheard of, but laudable and worth a shout-out here.
So kudos to you Eric Marshall. I toast you with hot chocolate and chicken soup.
