Local heroes were peddling the pain on every possible surface this weekend - country roads, city streets, mountain mud and even on the track. Here is the weekend that was:
- I met Chris G from Racing Union down at the Harrisonburg Crit on Saturday. He snapped some pics of the Women's and Cat 3/4 race, and scored himself a Top 10 in the Cat 5 event. And he would have scored himself a link here on GamJams even if one of the pics didn't have me in it.
- The Blog of Kevin details said Kevin's exploits in the Jr race (which was also the Cat 3/4 race) at Harrisonburg. He and his buddy Mark had Fred Flintstone feet spinning their junior gearing through the 40mph finishing sprint.
- Brian at Indiana Cycling did the same race as a Cat 4 and achieved a personal victory, along with a top 5 finish, in the process. Don't miss the pic of what Joe Jefferson (who announced the race) would call "single file for a while" - this race was fast.
- The Wrob went way out of his way to avoid the crash at the end of the Cat 3 RR in the Tour of Ephrata.
- It sounds like Black Lane got a closer look at the crash in Ephrata: "at about 1k to go there were 3 meat buses peeling dudes off the pavement. Apparently, a punch of knuckleheads were sprinting for the proverbial 27th spot, collided and ate massive Amish horseshit..." No word yet on whether the 13-year-old kid beat him in the TT.
- oldcyberdude of the Kjellquist Blog did the 50/60+ category at Ephrata, until an effort to bridge on the RR did him in and his weekend ended early. He's got some race history in his entry as well.
- kswope has Ephrata pics on Flickr, mostly of the women's races.
- Multimedia alert - jacbink999 has a video of the Cat 5 RR finish in Ephrata.
- Full results for the Greenbrier Challenge UCI MTB event are here. Lots of local folks near the tops of their respective classes, in national caliber fields.
- Kyia came out from Minnesota to race the UCI Elite Women's event at Greenbrier. There's a pre-ride course description and a full race report with pictures on her site.
- The Frederick News Post covered the race also (in nearby Hagerstown). Anyone else find this inconsistent? "Resting in the grass with his bike collapsed beside him, Tom Jones said he was competing in a mountain bike race for the first time." And 2 sentences later, "'It's a good first race of the season,' Jones, of Reston, Va., said." How exactly does he know that?
- And finally, Mrele went to LVV's Try the Track Day to do exactly that, and has video proof. Who says cycling isn't a made-for-TV spectator sport?
Send other reports, tips, links, juicy tidbits my way and I'll include them in a wrap-up later on.
Mike's being modest here by not mentioning how he kicked some butt at Harrisonburg!
