It was a weekend of 1st's: 1st ever Crystal City Classic, 1st Father's Day race I didn't get shelled out the back of a pack (I think last year it was the Master's event at CSC), 1st time my youngest son (Max, 3) finished on the podium in a kids race (with a 2nd at Crystal City), and another 1st in his category for my ringer mutant fast-twitch attackasaurus older son (Gavin, 5), who won his race at Crystal City going away. I mean, really going away - I was almost embarrassed. Not only because he beat the other kids so mercilessly, but because he's got so much more talent than his old man. You know how sometimes when you race your kids you let them win? People see me riding with him and assume that's what's going on. Well it's not.
Was your weekend like any of these?
- Speaking of ringer mutants, self-proclaimed Genetic Freak "Agent" Nick Mulder looked like he had Fred Flinstone feet both days, spinning out his Jr gears in the sprints at both Crystal City and RFK.
- Il Nessie pays Fair dues to the wee man, and makes a humble request of his fellow competitor: "Mike Esmonde, I'm pleading with you, upgrade and leave us to fight it out amongst ourselves! Not only did the lad win the race but he picked up an $800 set of wheels for a preem - the bugger."
- GamJams.net welcomes to the e-peloton the Flamenco Chuckwagon, whose new blog is "smarter, stronger, faster, better looking and sexier than yours." Maybe, but my kid can kick your kid's butt in a crit. He (Flamenco Chuckwagon, not my kid) made his Cat 4 debut at Crystal City, though I think he wasn't truly christened a Cat 4 until RFK, in which he crashed as a result of someone else's squirrelism. He may be a Cat 4, but his blog has Cat 3 power: solid race reports, drops some names of other racers, throws in a picture of his newly trashed wheel, even talks some smack to the Georgetown guy who crashed him. Allez!
- FJ Hughes has some photos of the pro races at Crystal City, for your adulating enjoyment.
- Megabeth was snapping away at Crystal City as well.
- Brave Canary has a few from Crystal City also.
- Blacknell has some pics from the end of the day at RFK, including the Women's Pro race and then the feature race to close the event, the men's Cat 4.
- And the fine folks at Hub Racing not only put on a swell and sweltering event; they even posted results lickety split AND some photos. How many race promoters post photos?
- Kyle from Pedal'n Around
enjoyedgot a heroic effort from his legs at the VA State TT Champs. But his legs promptly boycotted the RFK race, making poor Kyle uncharacteristic pack fodder. Worse still, he forgot his camera and has no pics and vids for us. Curious how the camera shows up when he scores a top 10, but mysteriously disappears when he's buried in the pack...
