Keeping Tempo: 3-28-08
If you've noticed the content-lite version of the site this week, it's because I've spent all week out here doing this. Still, there's some happenings afoot that you all might want to know about, including:
- Brian Fouche writes in to point out that The Tour of Virginia is the latest race casualty in the war against poor cycling sponsorship ROI. It's canceled for this year, though according to the site there are plans to resurrect it for 2009. Race Director Matt Butterman has full details here.
- Jenny Bodine at RealLife points us at the new Kreitler rollers - they're pink, and proceeds support US Women's Cycling Development Programs.
- I just really like this post by Anna Kelso called "Lady Like." It features a bunch of different pictures from the past century of women on bikes, and some quotations to accompany them. I'm pretty sure there's even at least one in there that Kyle might like.
- If you haven't glimpsed them yet, Granderkitten has a sneak peak of the new Battley Harley kits, resplendent in white this year.
- Finally, for those of you with Jeff Cup on the brain, you can always take a look at last year's coverage from the day after.
As ever, you can always keep an eye on the GamJams Ambassador Newsroll over on the top right of every page, to see the latest posts from the 30-odd GamJams Ambassadors. In case the links above don't satisfy your racing fix, I mean.

Hey! I thought SB was my secret West Coast training spot. A number of Coppi guys head out there to visit some old teammates and ride in the warm SB sun climbing hills like most DC people never imagine. San Marcos Pass, Gibralta, the Santa Ynez mountains! Crazy stuff. maybe next year we can make our visits overlap.

I did a recon mission by car over San Marcos Pass via San Marcos Road, Painted Cave, Camino Cielo en route to Solvang, and quickly realized that if I were going to try it by bike with the 12/23 I brought, I'd be in for either a really short day or a really long one. There is some incredible terrain out there, to be sure. I'll let you know when I'm going next year. Maybe in February, for the Mothballs crit in town, or in early April for a race in Ojai the locals on the group rides I did say is kind of outrageous.
