Arlington Sports has published the Men's Roster for this weekend's CSC Invitational. Team Slipstream is a new entry for this year, and among the squad is fan favorite Magnus Backstedt, who truncated his Giro d'Italia experience only a few stages ago.
I'm pretty sure I haven't heard of anyone on the small CSC squad deployed at the event.
Local heroes Tom Soladay (Time Pro Cycling) and Ben King (Kelly Benefit Strategies / Medifast) aim to make triumphant returns to the Mid-Atlantic region.
Also notable among the "invitation only" pro squads is amateur team Battley Harley Davidson. Fresh off Jonathan Page's podium finish at Somerville and Dave Fuentes' powerful work in the winning break and 4th place finish at BikeJam, the Battley Harley fellas aim to elevate their national profile up another notch at CSC.
Also Jon Hamblen who will be riding for the Time Pro Team. Jon is from Manassas VA and started as a junior in the D20/MABRA area in the 90s and made the step up to the pros with the Navigator team a few year back.

You've never heard of Matti Breschel?

Yes, I have heard of Matti Breschel. He got 2 top-20 finishes in the spring classics this year (that is, he finished exactly 20th twice.) I was being hyperbolic. The point I didn't make is that Slipstream is bringing talent to this race to either win it, or to show their US fan base that they are still of and among us murricans, despite their European success and focus. CSC's rather anemic presence (at the CSC Invitational) feels like a sense of obligation to their outgoing sponsor - not much of a way to thank CSC for the many years of support they've provided.
