Soladay, Candrian land Top 10s at Chris Thater
Sunday marked the 25th running of the Chris Thater Memorial Criterium in Binghamton, NY. Just up I-81 from Scranton, PA, Binghamton is of course well-known as, well, the place they race the Chris Thater Memorial Criterium, I guess.
Local hero Tom Soladay (Time Pro Cycling) was part of the 8-man break that escaped about halfway thorugh and stuck it through the end. His 8th place finish was another solid top 10 result in big races for the first year pro. Soladay recently finished 6th at the big money Presbyterian Invitational in Charlotte and 4th at Wells Fargo in Boise.
In the women's race, Pic and Van Gilder escaped and that was the end of that. A chase group of 5 followed them home to claim the remaining spots through 7th. Lorena Candrian (HPC p/b Altarum) was third in the pack sprint for an impressive 10th place finish. She too is having an outstanding season (which you can read about on her blog), with a 2nd at the MABRA Senior Women's Crit Championship, 2nd place in the Points Competition at Fitchburg-Longsjo, a win at Reston and top 20s in both the Nature Valley Grand Prix and Philly's Liberty Classic.
Those other sites have more complete coverage of Chris Thater (but no pics of our heroes). Still, if you want to dig deeper, take your pick.
Mike - thanks for the support.
I would have loved to come out to the Page Valley Road Race and was bummed I had the conflict. Sounds like the road race was a blast - long and lots of good climbing - LOVE to those kinds of courses and anyone who puts on that kind of race!
