I just got the latest issue of Bicycling Magazine. The cover photo was, naturally, Lance Armstrong. They have a shot of him racing at Cross Vegas.
The 2009 Tour Route was unveiled Wednesday AM, and by 11:58am VeloNews.com had an article up with Armstrong's opinions on the parcours, about their 60th article about him since he announced his return on September 9th.
It's not just the cycling pubs, either. Take a look at the spike in activity on blogs. The graph below shows the occurrence of the term "Lance Armstrong" over the past three months, as a percentage of total blog posts. Naturally there's a big spike on September 9th, but then a noticeable uptick in activity following (the late July spike is when it was revealed that he was racing the Leadville 100).
So where do you stand on the Lance Issue?
Whether you like Lance or not it has brought publicity back to the sport. Hopefully as things progress towards the tour the publicity will be positive and less based on the doping.

The only way this could generate more publicity for the sport is if he signed a contract to fight Kimbo Slice on the podium at the Champs Elysses, with an undercard of Mike Tyson v. Random Crazy Homeless Guy or Greg Lemond, whoever turns up first.

Ok, I cheated. I clicked on the Go Ahead vote twice. I just think it will be cool if he does well, gets hella drug tested and never is positive.
