Lots of people are out of work, or worried they could be soon. Jennifer is the latest casualty. She used her blog to reach out to this community, and I bet some gears are turning for her already.
We don't all have blogs though. So I've put together another forum for us racers to do some professional networking - on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn is like Facebook in that it's a social network. But instead of posting embarrassing pictures of your teammates, you post your resume, job history, education, skills and other information that helps you get hired.
LinkedIn is free to join, and the group - called GamJams: Cyclists Hiring Cyclists - is open to everyone. Won't you join and connect off the bike with other racers? It's ideal for:
- looking for clients or a new job
- promoting a business you run, from coaching to consulting to landscaping
- finding someone fill a job you have available, or some work you need done, like a new Controller at your company, or someone to fix the jammed power windows on your car
- doing some good in a crummy economy, by helping cyclists who is looking for work, and introducing them to the right people
We all do business with somebody - why not do as much of it as possible with our fellow racers?
Once you join, connect with the other cyclists in the group and start a discussion (about yourself if you want, and that you're looking for work or looking to hire someone - it's not a place to be shy).
You know I have to close with a corny cycling metaphor, so here it is:
The only way to achieve individual glory is by making the right alliances in the pack.
