Over the summer, GamJams reported on the social networking options for cyclists, beginning with Facebook. Over the past few weeks, there has been a surge in Facebook activity by area racers, resulting in many new ways to procrastinate getting on the trainer.
Here are a few of the time sucks resources available to you on the site.
(Note: you'll need to have a Facebook account to view any of these. It's free, but whether or not that's a good value is yet to be determined.)
- There is a GamJams group. Think of it as the lobby. Join it, and you'll see everyone else from here who is also there. Then go write on their walls, comment on their photos, and poke the bejeezus out of people who dropped you on the climbs.
- MABRA also has a group. The MABRA group is currently larger than the GamJams group, which nobody here takes personally. You want to just hang out with them? That's fine - we'll just take our pump and go home.
- Find a sympathetic ear in the MABRA Bike Widows' Support Group.
- You can join the other 239 people already in the Gunnar Shogren Fan Club.
- Lots of local teams have open groups too, like the Virginia Beach Wheelmen and Evolution Cycling.
- You can put your events in there, like the VB CX & Winter Endurance Challenge.
- Facebook has fan pages. You can be a fan of Jens Voigt, 53x11 Coffee, or Chimay Bleue.
If you know of others, leave them in the comments.
I thought Facebook was for high school and college kids? ;)
