This week's GamJams Reviews is on Car Racks. If you want to add your own review, do it in the comments or on your own blog and throw a link in the comments.
- Sigberto loves the versatility of his Thule roof-rack system: "I knew I wanted a roof rack from the beginning because it would make my car a bit more versatile. On that Thule system I've thrown my kayaks, snowboards, skis, and even a ladder once. Another time I was helping a friend move, so we strapped a dolly onto the rack and threw the boxes and a TV inside the hatch."
- "Vertically challenged" BethBikes abandoned the roof-rack idea and went instead with the Yakima Hook Up hitch rack:. Her list of 7 pro's (better gas mileage than a roof rack, no chance of driving bikes into low overhang or garage, etc) outnumber the 4 con's (not lockable seems the most significant) for the rack.
- The Service Course is a Yakima man to his core, loyal to the same set of Yakima crossbars he purchased in 1992: "So until I have this guy build me a set of custom ProTour racks, complete with the hydraulic fold down wheel rack and a loudspeaker mount so I can shout “Venga! Venga! Venga!” from the driver’s seat of my black-market Skoda, I’ll stick with Yakima."
- First Dropped uses an Xport Fork Mounts "that I can attach to any roof rack."
- Signal 13 reviews his Saris Thelma: "This is my rack of choice and will forever be my rack of choice. No cloth straps or metal bits. Super simple to use and install. Put the bike in, pull the two ratchets tights and go."
- Flamenco Chuckwagon claims his Delta Pick-up Truck Fork Mounts on Thule crossbars are unusual for him in that they are "bike-specific part bought in a bike-specific store." Maybe, but they're not designed to work together, as evidenced by his employmnent of three hose clamps to secure them.
- The Unholy Rouleur rocks the Rocky Mounts Noose SL on his factory crossbars: "Basically, it's just a fork mount bike rail that mounts to the factory-supplied cross bars on your vehicle. It's competitively priced with the big boys like Yakima and Thule - I got a team deal but they retail for $99 per rail. They are versatile, with mounts that could be described as universal fit. The downside to that is that they need to be tightened periodically, because the fit isn't (and never could be) absolutely perfect, and it took a bit of head scratching to figure out exactly how to fit them."

About GamJams Reviews:
All cyclists are experts, at least when it comes to our equipment
choices. We know why we chose what we chose, and what we think of the
product after we've been using it. GamJams Reviews channels that
collective expertise - category by category - into a tidy package of
articles designed to help all of us make better equipment decisions.
Buying what pros get paid to use is one way to go. But the candid
testimonial of fellow racers who paid out of their own pocket - that's
an endorsement that really counts.
