This week's GamJams Reviews is on Helmets. If you want to add your own review, do it in the comments or on your own blog and throw a link in the comments.
- Sigberto currently uses a Specialized S-Works but isn't overjoyed with it. Instead, he gives props to "the low-level Bell Alchera and the value-oriented, race-caliber Giro Monza. Both performed their duties well without bothering me one bit."
- DJ Bike Police's favorite helmet is his Bell Sweep, though he wishes he looked good in the Specialized S-Works: "I like the way the Specialized S-works helmet looks on others, but when I try it on myself, it makes me feel like I'm rockin' the Kid 'n Play high top fade." (There's a picture if you don't know who he's talking about.)
- As ever, The Unholy Rouler's review is equal parts review and advice. The review is on the Giro Saros, which he rides both on and off-road (a vote of confidence, since his off-road is on occassion off-off-road-and-into-maple-trees). The advice is as much for your riding buddies as it is for you: "The treatment for Skank Helmet™ is easy. Hop into a warm shower with it on, give it a good rinse, then shampoo the outside, the innards, the pads, and most of all the straps with whatever you use for your hair. You don't need to condition it, and I wouldn't recommend using shampoo with weird additives like anti-dandruff shampoo or Rogaine shampoo, just in case. Rinse it out really well, then let it dry."
- The con's outnumber the pro's for Beth Bikes' Giro Pnuemo helmet, particularly, "The straps – thick and heavy, all that strappiness irritates my skin. The closure system – my new helmet has already come undone in the back, not good." She has ordered a Specialized S-Works, largely because of the way it looks.
- But Flamenco Chuckwagon reminds us that fit counts too, and his head loves his Bell Volt: "You either have a Bell head (oblong in plan view) or a Giro head (round in plan view). I have a Bell head."

About GamJams Reviews:
All cyclists are experts, at least when it comes to our equipment
choices. We know why we chose what we chose, and what we think of the
product after we've been using it. GamJams Reviews channels that
collective expertise - category by category - into a tidy package of
articles designed to help all of us make better equipment decisions.
Buying what pros get paid to use is one way to go. But the candid
testimonial of fellow racers who paid out of their own pocket - that's
an endorsement that really counts.
Helmets used.
Bell Sweep R loved it thumped it twice Both times it saved my noggin. Still in the bag for Mt Biking.
Strayed to Specialized. It whistled from day one Specialized rep said they do that, and it sucks your hair out the vents and makes for a great four row mowhawk. Great for the C-store visits post ride.
Enter the Bell Volt. It fits better than the Specialized and Sweep R. And it is cooler more air flow than Sweep R. And it doesn't whistle on those screaming decents! Best helmet to date.
