This year, the Air Force Cycling Classic expands to two days, May 30th and 31st in Arlington. Saturday is the Clarendon Cup, formerly known as the CSC Invitational and still regarded as "the hardest crit in America." Sunday is a circuit race over a 12.5km course through Arlington and around the Pentagon.
The pro races on both days are by invitation only. Richmond Pro Cycling and Battley Harley-Davidson are the only amateur squads selected to do battle with some of North America's fastest pro squads. Confirmed pro teams include:
Amore & Vita-MacDonald's, BMC Racing Team, Colavita - Sutter Home Presented By Cooking Light, DLP Racing, Kelly Benefit Strategies, Kenda Pro Cycling, OUCH presented by Maxxis, Planet Energy, Rock Racing, Team Mountain Khakis, Team Type 1, Nordland Hamburg, Jet Fuel, Team Medscheme and Fly V Australia.
More information on the race weekend is at www.airforcecyclingclassic.com.
It looks like the race has 6 amateur teams for 2009. DLP, Richmond Pro, Jet Fuel, Team Medscheme,
Nordland Hamburg and Battley H-D do not have UCI professional licenses for 2009.
