We've all heard it before — the two types of cyclists. Those who have and those who haven't crashed. You will crash, eventually. You will be scraped up a little (or maybe a lot). Experienced crashers (which sounds kind of sketchy, no?) know how to get rid of it quickly.
This week's GamJams Reviews focus on miracle road rash cures. If you've crashed, you know what works and what doesn't. If you have your own techniques, put 'em in the comments or add a link in the comments to your own blog.
- Beth throws down some serious science right off the bat. She knows of what she speaks. "The best road rash treatment I have found is some type of occlusive dressing." Read on for a how-to on how to fix yourself up.
- The Unholy Rouleur has some advice, but read the disclaimer first: "I had a bunch of stuff written up on this but frankly the idea that I was practicing medicine -- or at least practicing medical malpractice -- without a license sort of occurred to me midway."
- Tegaderm is the key for The Flamenco Chuckwagon, especially after the screaming from the shower. Ouch. "The scrub brush is tough love personified. Then the Tegaderm is the blissful reward."
- Hey, speaking of screaming in the shower, obscenities flowed from District Cycling after a recent crash. " ... my wife was giggling at the words spewing from my mouth with how much it hurt."
- There have been three crashes in Algomaha this year. Each has left my knees looking worse than the one before. It's mostly ointment and large bandages in these parts. "For me, the key is always keeping it covered and medicated the first few days."
Next reviews: Multi-tools (June 18), Gruppo, or whatever Frankenbike combination you have going (June 25)
About GamJams Reviews:
All cyclists are experts, at least when it comes to our equipment choices. We know why we chose what we chose, and what we think of the product after we've been using it. GamJams Reviews channels that collective expertise - category by category - into a tidy package of articles designed to help all of us make better equipment decisions. Buying what pros get paid to use is one way to go. But the candid testimonial of fellow racers who paid out of their own pocket - that's an endorsement that really counts.
