Tyler Karnes and Elliott Craddock, racing for Hincapie, posted the best time at the Virginia Beach Wheelmen's inaugural Smithfield HAMmerfest TTT, covering the 27.7 mile course in 1:00:35 (and narrowly missing the sub-hour bonus of $100). The duo's effort also netted them the win in the "Young Riders" competition.

Over 80 racers turned out for this first-time event, run on an unconventional format on a new course, devoid of BAR or upgrade points. Complete results at the Virginia Beach Wheelmen site.
Of the nearly 90 racers who registered, we sold 35 one-day licenses. Being the first TT event I have promoted, I don't know if that is normal. But like someone said, it sounds like it might be a good method to get new riders into the sport. I know many of the 1-day licenses were sold to riders who were riding with their friend, who was a racer, to see what it was all about.
Next year we just need to get more of the other, seasoned racers out there too.
