Halfway through a damp, chilly, foggy ride over the weekend, one rider called another "wookie sticks." The recipient's hairy legs, covered in a layer of road grime and embrocation, had become too much for the other rider to bear.
The other rider pointed to his own road-grime-and-embrocation-coated — though shaved — legs as a shining example of "pro." And then an argument ensued about the merits of shaving in winter. As the ride ended, we reached no firm guidelines, which is probably for the best.
So now the question goes here: Guys, do you shave your legs year-round? (Use the first two poll answers.) Girls, what's your stance on that? (Use the second two poll answers.)

I find there's only one good reason to shave in the winter... Those leg warmers will slowly pull out the leg hair on your thighs... OUCH. But I need the insulation in winter.

You need an option for no shaving year-round. Hairy is the new shaved for 2010!

Some years I shave through winter. Other years, I let it grow out like my facial hair, then trim up in February, going Brazil using a combination of napalm, Zippos and duct tape. Has more to do with whether I'm riding outside a lot - doesn't seem worth $20/week and 15 minutes 3-4 times/week just to make sure I look PRO on the trainer in the basement.

Ummmm what about full fenders all winter and no grime on your legs? I guess cycling and functionality are mutually exclusive.

Disclosure: Fenders were used by all parties on that ride. It was really messy out there.
