The scenario: Wave after wave of attacks is slowly grinding down the bunch. Each attack is somehow harder than the previous attack, and it's getting tough to recover.
And then ... POP! The group is riding away and there you are: cooked. And there's no chance of getting back on that train. Sure, you'll try, but at some point you'll realize it's over.
So now what? Keep going and get that 46th place finish you so justly deserve? Or do you call it quits and come back to fight another day?

You're missing the most common response which is to pull off and loudly make excuses.
