Every week I highlight reports from all of us who could'a, should'a, and would'a done really well if things hadn't'a turned out the way they did. But last week was the USA Cycling Masters National Road Championships and several local heroes were front and center on the national stage. Here's a quick rundown of those athletes who represented our region and showed the rest of the nation just how much fast we've got going on around here...
In the Time Trial, so many athletes went so fast around Taylorsville, KY, it'll make you feel so slow:

We will feature as many of these athletes as we can over the course of the next few months so that they will no longer be able to hide in the pack when they show up at your next group ride. No, rest assured, these local heroes are now part of the national stage and you need to know. They are the wheels you'll want to follow.

Updates:
- Kudos have to go out to Mike Fawell of Glen Allen, VA who actually got 5th in the 35-39 TT. I hate taking a podium spot away from someone faster than me!
- Though not regionally based, Alaina Gurski of Philadelphia, PA rides for a regional team, CAWES Racing. She posted some serious results for one of our local teams and took 3rd in the 40-44 TT, 9th in the RR, and 12th in the crit.
Are there any more that I missed? Please let me know so I can start working on their feature article.

Gus Grissom races for Team GamJams Racing, teaches Greek and Latin at DeMatha Catholic High School, and writes a dissertation in his spare time. He compiles this column strictly for fortune and glory.
And all of their wives were being serviced by the non=masters while they were busy chasing their pro contracts. LOL.
