The official scoring and rules for the GamJams Cat 3 Cup goes like this:
Eligibility:
- Racers who are Cat 3 at the time of their participation in a Cat 3 Cup event are eligible to earn individual and team points.
- Cat 4 racers are not eligible to earn individual or team points, even if they finish within the scoring places of a Cat 3 Cup category 3/4 event.
- Cat 3 racers from any region or local association are eligible. Unattached riders are also eligible for the Individual competition.
Individual Scoring:
- All scoring will be based on the official results published by the race promoter. If incomplete results for a Cat 3 Cup are published, points will be awarded based on as many finishing positions as available.
-
- eg, If the camera hiccups and only the top 4 are recorded, Cat 3 Cup points will go to 4th.
- Points will be awarded to a racer's score in the Individual Competition as follows:
-
- 1st Place: 15 points
- 2nd Place: 12 points
- 3rd place: 9 points
- 4th place: 7 points
- 5th place: 6 points
- 6th place: 5 points
- 7th place: 4 points
- 8th place: 3 points
- 9th place: 2 points
- 10th place 1 points
- Everything else: 0 points (ie, stop sprinting for 18th place)
- Points are awarded based on absolute finishing position, not finishing position among Cat 3 racers
-
- For example, in a Cat 3/4 race, if a Cat 4 finishes 4th, the 7 points for 4th place are not awarded (see "Eligibility" above). The Cat 3 finsihing in 5th place is awarded 6 points for 5th, not 7 points for the 4th place Cat 3.
- If a racer upgrades out of Cat 3 during the Cat 3 Cup, he is not removed from the competition. However, he will not be able to accrue an additional points.
- If a racer changes teams during the Cat 3 Cup, he may continue to accrue points that will contribute to his individual scoring total. Individual points are team-agnostic.
- In the event of a tie, the series leader or series winner will be determined through the following scenarios, in order:
-
- At the last Cat 3 Cup event where the tied contestants both competed, the tie-break will be awarded to to the racer who finished higher (ie, if you beat him on the road, you beat him in the competition)
- If the racers did not compete directly against each other during the Cat 3 Cup series, the tie-break will be awarded to the racer with the most Top 3 finishes in Cat 3 Cup events
- If the racers did not compete directly against each other and have the same number of Top 3 finishes, the tie-break will be awarded to the racer who had the most Top 10 finishes in Cat 3 Cup events.
- If that still doesn't do it, the tie-break will be awarded to the racer who registered for the most Cat 3 Cup events.
- Seriously? OK, if there's still a tie the winner is the racer who competed in a Cat 3 Cup event most recently.
Team Scoring:
- A team's score is determined simply by adding the individual scores of its racers.
- If a racer upgrades during the Cat 3 Cup, his individual score prior to his upgrade continues to contribute to his team's score.
- If a racer changes teams during the Cat 3 Cup, any individual points earned will contribute to the racer's team points total at the time the racer accrued the points.
-
- For example, if the racer earns 5 points while on team ABC, then switched to DEF and scored 6 more points, ABC will keep the 5 team points he earned, and DEF will keep the 6.
- In the above scenario, the racer has 11 individual points to contribute towards the Individual scoring (see above).
- In the event of a tie, the winning team will be determined through the following scenarios, in order:
-
- Whichever team has the most Top 3 finishes in Cat 3 Cup events
- Whichever team has the most Top 10 finishes in Cat 3 Cup events
- Whichever team has the highest placed finisher at the final Cat 3 Cup event of the season
- In the unlikely event that neither tied team has any racers competing in the final Cat 3 Cup event of the season, the tie-break will be awarded to whichever team has the highest placed finisher at the second to the last Cat 3 Cup event of the season (and then the 3rd to the last if necessary, then 4th, etc.)
Prizes:
- Individual and Team prizes TBA.
